Membership Matrix

Overview of Grades of Membership
The object of this document is to set out guidelines on the different grades of the Institution of Highways & Transportation, (IHT). Membership is open to anyone working in transportation and related fields (for example education, finance, human resources, marketing, police or armed forces) with the level depending on your experience and qualifications.

Fellow - FIHT
Fellow is the highest class of membership of the Institution and is conferred on anyone working in transportation with proven ability and who has made a significant contribution to the profession.

As a senior member of the profession a candidate would normally be making a major contribution to Institution affairs and have reached a pinnacle of career distinction within the field of transportation. FIHT is recognised in the industry as a highly respected symbol of excellence.

Member - MIHT
Member grade shows that you are a corporate member of the Institution. This class of membership is conferred on anyone working in transportation with proven ability and who has made a contribution to the profession. MIHT is highly recognised in the industry.

Associate Member – AMIHT
Associate Member grade shows that you are working in the industry, with some proven ability and/or experience. Maybe a person just starting out in the industry who is recently qualified, or someone with some years of experience, but without relevant qualifications.

Student Member
A student member must be currently involved in a full-time course of study, or part-time study, or be following a professional development plan related to highways and/or transportation.

Student members may describe themselves as such but may not use any abbreviation of the title or any initials.
