| Fellow - FIHT |
Fellow is the highest class of membership of the Institution and is conferred on people working in transportation with proven ability and who have made a significant contribution to the profession.
As a senior member of the profession a candidate would normally be making a major contribution to Institution affairs and have reached a pinnacle of career distinction within the field of transportation. FIHT is recognised in the industry as a highly respected symbol of excellence. |

| Member - MIHT |
This class of membership is conferred on people working in transportation with proven ability and who have made a contribution to the profession. MIHT is highly recognised in the industry. |

| Associate Member - AMIHT |
Associate Member grade is for people who are working in the industry, with some proven ability and/or experience. Maybe a person just starting out in the industry who is recently qualified, or someone with some years of experience, but without relevant qualifications. |

| Student |
A student member must be currently involved in a full-time course of study, or part-time study and/or in-service training in highways and transportation and/or road safety and/or working towards a certified level 4/5 N/SVQ.
Student members may describe themselves as such but Student membership does not give 'letters' after your name. |

| Additional Information |
Applicants for Fellow, Member or Associate Member may be asked to attend an interview and/or produce evidence relating to their knowledge of transportation.
In exceptional circumstances Council may, in its absolute discretion, refuse to approve an applicant for election at any grade, whether they possess the requisite qualifications or not. Council’s decision to approve or disapprove an applicant for election is final. |

| Change of Status |
Members must transfer to another grade for which they are qualified. Applications should be made on an application form, which should be sent to the Membership Department.
All election and transfer fees must be paid at the time of application. Applications that are not accompanied by the appropriate fee will not be processed. |
