Q: Do I have to have a degree in a particular subject? 

A: No.  Any degree is acceptable as long as you have completed at least 2 years transportation related work experience since you graduated.

 

Q1: Where can I find a proposer and seconder?

A1: If you cannot find a proposer and/or seconder where you work, contact the Education & Membership department on t: +44 (0)20 7391 9964 or e: membership@iht.org or the local IHT branch. They will be able to put you in touch with suitable contacts.

 

Q2: When do I receive a copy of Transportation Professional?

A2: Once your membership application is approved and we have received payment, you will start to receive copies of the magazine.

 

Q3: How can I update my records?

A3: You can update your records online in the Members’ Lounge section of the website. Or you can contact the Education & Membership department on t: 020 7391 9969 or e: membership@iht.org

 

Q4: I have lost my membership number. What should I do?

A4: Contact the Education & Membership department on t: +44 (0)20 7391 9969 or e: membership@iht.org. They will be able help.

 

Q5: How long will it take to process my application?

A5: Applications are normally acknowledged within 3 working days. The form is then considered by the Membership Application Panel, and you should know the outcome of your application within 3 weeks.

 

Q6: I am looking for a back issue of Transportation Professional. Where can I find it?

A6: Electronic back issues are available in the Members’ Lounge section of the website. If you can’t find what you are looking for there, please contact the Communications Department on t: +44 (0)20 7391 9971.

 

Q7: Can I become a Chartered or Incorporated Engineer through IHT?

A7: Yes. IHT offers both standard and non standard routes to CEng or IEng status. See Get Qualified for further details.

 

Q8: I want to transfer between grades. What should I do?

A8: Contact the Education & Membership department on t: +44 (0)20 7391 9969 or e: membership@iht.org for a transfer form, or download the application form from the website.

 

Q9: How many issues of Transportation Professional are published each year?

A9: There are ten issues of the magazine published annually. January/February and July/August are joint issues.

 

Q10: I am not receiving Transportation Professional anymore?

A10: Check that you have paid your subscription fee this year, and that you have informed us of any change of address, otherwise, please contact the Education & Membership Department on +44 (0)20 7391 9969 and we shall put this right.

 

Q11: What are Corporate Members of IHT?

A11: Corporate Members are those at either the Member or Fellow grade of membership. Corporate members are 'shareholders' in the Institution and eligible to vote in ballots for Council and attend the AGM.

 

Q12: When are my subscription fees due?

A12: Subscriptions are due on 1 January each year. An invoice is sent to all members in November.

 

Q13: How can I pay my subscription?

A13: The best way to pay subscription fees is by direct debit. Click here to download a mandate, which must be returned to us by the end of October in order for it to take effect from January.

 

Q14: Will I get a receipt for my Membership Subscription?

A:14: Yes, receipts for payments made in January, are normally sent out in the middle of February. Receipts for payments made during the remainder of the year are sent out within a month.

 

Q:15: When will I get my Certificate of Membership?

A:15: Usually, this will be 6 weeks after election. Each certificate is signed by the President, and Chief Executive, and will be sent to you once your initial subscription fee has been paid.

 

Q16: Can I transfer my EC( UK) registration to IHT?

A16: Yes, request a form from the Education & Membership Department on e: education@iht.org, or t: +44 (0)20 7391 9967.
