Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

The Institution’s Code of Professional Conduct says that members shall seek to upgrade their professional knowledge and skill, and shall maintain awareness of technological developments, procedures and standards that are relevant to their field, and shall encourage colleagues to do likewise. The Institution’s CPD scheme is designed to help members, at all levels, to maintain their professional competence throughout their working lives and commit to a concept of lifelong learning.

On-line Professional Development Scheme New

IHT is participating in a pilot which will enable members to track their career progress using an on-line system that records Initial Professional Development (IPD) and Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

The IPD system is designed for members working towards Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status and allows them to create IPD plans, record evidence of development activities, chart progress against the CEng or IEng competencies, and generate reports.

The CPD system will enable members to create CPD plans, record CPD activities, reflect on their what they have learned from their CPD experiences and generate reports.

IHT runs a full programme of high-quality seminars and conferences on current developments in the transportation industry. Members benefit from discounted rates at organised events, which contribute to their CPD portfolio.

IHT has a developing relationship with The Open University’s Centre for Continuing Professional Development (CCPD). Members who register for Open University CPD courses will receive a 10% discount.
