Transport Policy Board

The Transport Policy Board has been established to build on the former Transport Policy & Planning Board and to strengthen the Institution's focus on transport and its links to social, economic and environmental well-being.

The Transport Policy Board's primary objectives are set out below.

•  To strengthen the Institution's focus on all modes of transport and their links to the social, economic and environmental health of the nation.

•  To seek, promote and support innovation, progress and excellence in transport policy and practice.

•  To stimulate research and studies, and facilitate the dissemination of information and results, into transport policy and practice.

•  To encourage the development and implementation of best practice and to help practitioners provide high quality services and outcomes.

•  To work across the range of transport industry sectors - supply, contracting, consultancy, local government and central government - and encourage a learning environment.

•  To be an independent source of professional advice and information.

•  To act as a champion for higher standards and lead debate in the professional and public domain.

•  To strengthen the Institution's standing and performance as a learned society.

Professionals are struggling with safeguarding travel plan measures in the long term, and planners are producing sub standard travel plans because there is not a guaranteed funding stream in place to support travel plan measures. IHT have begun to address Transport Management Associations (TMAs) and Business Improvement Districts (BIDS) through the Sustainable Transport Panel which is a sub group of the Transport Policy Board. The panel will be working on best practice notes and the provision of guidance for TMAs and BIDS, as detailed in their business plan.
