History

The Branch was formed on 11 November 1964. Together with the President and Secretary of the Institution, seven guests attended the inaugural meeting of the Northern Ireland Branch. Today, the small group of members has grown to almost 300.Three Presidents have come from the Branch: Harold Scott in 1971, Billy McCoubrey in 1998-9 and Ronnie Porter 2002-3.

Technical Events

The Branch is very active. Four technical meetings are held between November and March each year in Belfast including joint meetings with the Institution of Civil Engineers and the Institution of Logistics and Transportation. In addition a lunchtime meeting is held in the West or North of the Province. This usually takes the form of a lecture followed by a lunch. Technical seminars are also held biennially with the co-operation of the local universities and other professional institutions.

Social Events

The social calendar is full too – the Branch has a Social Evening each year to which members, guests and partners are invited. The Annual Dinner is held in March with over 300 sitting down to celebrate the year's achievements. The Dinner is the highlight of the year and many 'movers and shakers' in the local transportation scene attend.

We have an active golfing group and the winners of the Harold Scott trophy represent the Branch each year in the Locan Cup. The Branch has won the Cup on numerous occasions!
