Andrew Guttridge is currently Strategic Commissioner for Sustainable Transport at Suffolk County Council, a post he took up in April 2008. This role includes the development of transport strategy as well as the commissioning (client) function for all aspects of the Council’s highways and transport services.

Although having a background in highways engineering and management, from 2005 to 2007 Andrew led the creation and development of an integrated passenger transport unit in Suffolk.

Andrew joined Suffolk in 1990, after 11 years with Hertfordshire County Council. He is a Chartered Engineer and has been a Member of IHT since 1983, joining the branch committee in 2000. He is also a member of CSS and serves on the Engineering Committee and joint CSS/TAG highways management working group. He has presented at major events such as “Cold Comfort” (the national winter maintenance conference) and the Quality Streetscapes Conference.

Andrew is also a member and past Chairman of his local parish council.

Becky graduated from the University of Hertfordshire (formerly Hatfield Polytechnic) with a BEng (Hons) in Civil Engineering in 1994 and an MEng in Engineering in 1995. Becky achieved Chartered status with the Engineering Council via the IHT in Autumn 2003.

She was elected as a Member of the IHT in 1998 and served on the Branch Committee as a Young Member representative for four years. She was elected as Branch Secretary in 2002.

Michael Albury worked for the Planning and Transportation Department of Norfolk County Council for many years until his retirement in 2006.  His total career spanned 41 years and included both consultancy and local authority work, covering bridge construction and highway maintenance.  He was appointed as the Branch Treasurer in 2002 and prior to that was Branch Examiner for 14 years.

Martin is a Director with Millard Consulting and heads the pre-planning and infrastructure team in the Norwich office. Martin provides advice to many national and local clients on all aspects of infrastructure and transport for new and regeneration projects. With over 20 years experience in highway engineering and transport related schemes, design and management of all types of infrastructure. Martin leads his team on all major developments and co-ordinates inputs from other areas of the Group.
Highlights have included securing transport measures and infrastructure for residential developments of various sizes; ranging from two to 1300 dwellings, as well as the design of business parks and commercial centres from 4ha to 102ha. His personal drivers to success have always been leadership, delivery and focus; which he instils; whilst leading the infrastructure team.

Martin is also the East Anglian Branch Member on Council and has a seat on the Transport Policy Board. In addition he organises the branch dinner dance held in February each year and is an Engineering Advisor to Nottingham University to link further education with industry.

Peter is a Senior Road Safety Engineer with Hyder Consulting based in the London office. He commenced his employment there, in the summer of 2007, having previously had 20 years experience in local government. He had worked for Essex County Council, Norfolk County Council, Chelmsford Borough Council, Stoke-on-Trent City Council and Staffordshire County Council. His varied background includes the fields of transport planning, traffic management, development control and highway engineering. He gained a BTEC Professional Development Diploma in highway and traffic engineering from Nottingham Trent University.

His particular recent experience is in safety engineering and accident investigation. He has extensive experience in formulation of integrated highway safety policies, research and development of innovative safety, speed reduction and traffic management measures. He has given national and local presentations on safety auditing, traffic management, speed and casualty reduction. He has also acted as a paper reviewer for the Institute of Civil Engineers Transport Journal.

He was first elected onto the East Anglian Branch Committee in 2006. He is also a member of the IHT Society of Road Safety Auditors Branch Committee.

 

Sarah Taylor

Sarah is a Senior Engineer with White Young Green, based in their Norwich office. She works in Development Planning and Strategy, providing advice on the provision of highways and transportation infrastructure in new developments. This includes the production of Transport Assessments and progressive Travel Plans in support of planning applications and some of her recent projects include the Derwent Howe Development Strategy and the Leeds – Bradford Corridor regeneration study.

She also provides highways and transportation input into master-planning exercises, as well as into the production of development strategies and feasibility studies assessing potential options for the future development of specific sites as part of regeneration and renewal programmes.

Sarah recently relocated to Norwich from White Young Green’s Leeds office, where she worked extensively in Development Planning in multi-disciplinary projects involving town planners, architects, landscape architects and economists. Whilst based in Leeds, she obtained her MSc(Eng) in Transport Planning and Engineering at the Institute for Transport Studies, University of Leeds, with her dissertation investigating disabled people’s attitudes to public transport.

Sarah helps coordinate events in the New Professionals’ Group offered by the East Anglia Branch. In addition to her involvement with the IHT, she also sits on the Association of Consultancy and Engineering’s Roads Sustainability special interest group.
