David Tarrant BSc CEng FICE FIHT MCMI DipTE

David Tarrant is a Director of Gifford Consultants now heading up the Civil Engineering business and a member of the Main Board.  Formerly the Deputy County Surveyor and Deputy Director of Environment at Hampshire County Council, David opted for a change of career and in February 2004 joined Gifford as Director responsible for the Transportation Business.

David’s career to date has embraced the full range of responsibilities involved in the Environment sector from policy and planning to construction and from highway and light rapid transit to intelligent transport systems.  He has chaired and delivered many presentations in a variety of transport issues in UK Europe USA, Middle East, Japan and Russia.

David has been a member of Council since 2002 and Chair of the Transport Policy Board from 2004 to 2005 and recognises the challenges of presenting often conflicting member views of the wider community.  David has been active in IHT for over 20 years, latterly serving on the Southern Branch Committee.

Married to Chris, David has two children, Jemma a history graduate and Richard who is just starting a degree in International Relations and Politics.

David goes sailing whenever and wherever possible.
