Annual IHT/BP Bitumen Safety Award

The aim of the Award is to identify, share and celebrate good road safety practice. IHT is extremely grateful to BP Bitumen for their continuing support. BP Bitumen donates the £5,000 prize money.

Safety is the most important responsibility of anyone involved in transport. IHT has a long track record and sustained interest in road safety. The IHT Road Safety Award recognises outstanding achievements, which will improve road safety.

1996 Gloucestershire County Council for its SAGE (Safer Driving with Age) programme
1998 Joint winners were John Deeming, Director of Technical Services, Kingston upon Hull City Council for the Bramsholme Community Road Safety Initiative and Julia Moreland, Mouchel TSC Consulting Engineers for the “Walking Bus” at Wheatfields Junior School, St Albans, Herts.

2000  Joint winners were Bexley Road Safety Action Group and LBV Television

2002  Northamptonshire Safety Camera Partnership

2003  Penryn Infant School, Penryn Junior School and Rachel Smith from the Halcrow Group for 'The 100 Club'

2004  Portsmouth City Council for ' Fawcett Road People Zone: A Safer Route to School Mixed Priority Route' and Metropolitan Borough of Knowsley for 'Intelligent Ice Cream Vans'
