Past
IHT has a venerable history of promoting excellence in the highways and transportation industry. The leading professional body for transportation practitioners, IHT, was founded on 4 January 1930 as the Institution of Highway Engineers. Shortly after forming, the first subsequent Council meeting on 8 February 1930 took place at the Globe Hotel, Kings Lynn, Norfolk. Later that year on 28 November 1930, the Institution Articles of Association were signed and the rest, as they say, is history!
And what a history - since 1930, the Institution has led the way in promoting all aspects of sustainable transport systems and infrastructure to its members, the industry and society. Having changed its name to the Institution of Highways & Transportation in 1983, IHT has continued with strength, and has established an esteemed reputation for the work it does to support its membership and encourage best practice in the industry.
