The Institution believes that efficient procurement in highways and transportation is a key issue for its members and to that end it established a Technical Board devoted to this subject.
IHT's Procurement Board has four objectives:
* To examine the variety of financial and procurement mechanisms for delivering and managing all forms of transport systems and infrastructure.
* To develop greater awareness by IHT members of the value of both traditional and innovative processes of funding and procurement.
* To establish links and contacts with major providers and users of new means of funding such as PFI, PPP and Partnering to disseminate knowledge and specific information within IHT membership and in the wider community.
* To encourage the development and implementation of best practice and to help practitioners provide high quality services.
Using electronic communications will help us achieve these and will provide a one stop site for procurement matters and in particular a "case history" service to IHT members who need to raise their knowledge and understanding of modern procurement in highways and transportation. This site contains relevant policy papers, Government reports and short reports sharing experiences of how different types of procurement methods have been used in practice.
